Buck Lake Park: This 36-acre park is located West of Alpha off County Rd. 424 on Buck Lake Road and Buck Lake Park Road. The park has a mile-long nature trail along the lakeshore, a pavilion with picnic tables, fishing pier, boat launch and pit toilet. This pretty park was established for the publics’ use and enjoyment. Stager Lake Park: This beautiful little park is located on the southern tip of Stager Lake. Stager Lake is in southern Mastodon Township along Stager Lake Road, just off U.S. 2 & 141 near the Wisconsin border. The park features picnic tables, wheelchair accessible picnic table, a fishing pier, swimming area and swimming docks and a boat launch. There are also a changing house and toilets. Mastodon Township, sponsored through a grant from the Dickinson Area Community Foundation, has landscaped and installed a new playground system at Stager Lake Park. Camp 5 Area: Camp 5 is a unique, remote area of Mastodon Township off U.S. Hwy. 69 East of Crystal Falls and south on Camp 5 Road. Wisconsin Electric owns most of the land around a large reservoir called Peavey Backwaters, the Paint River and the Michigamme River, which feed into these backwaters. They have primitive camping areas around the backwaters as well as dams that are accessible for fishing and viewing. Lake Mary: Lake Mary is located South of U.S. Hwy. M69 East of Crystal Falls on Lake Mary Road. There is a public access site at the end of North Shore Road which offers a boat launch, pier and pit toilet. Glidden Lake Campground: Glidden Lake campground is a primitive state campground located off U.S. Hwy. M69 East of Crystal Falls and south on Lake Mary Road. It offers approximately 20 primitive, wooded, large camp sites; pit toilets; water pump; boat launch and swimming area. There are also miles of hiking/cross country skiing/biking trails attached to this campground. Camp Christine: Camp Christine is located on the West side of Lake Mary off Lake Mary Road. It is a veteran-owned property and offers a 16-unit campground with facilities, a large swimming area and boat dock. There is also a mobile home for rent on the property and a large reception hall which is rented out for various events. Horse Race Rapids: Horse Race Rapids is a picturesque area focusing on the rapids. It is located off Highway U.S. 2/141 South of Crystal Falls at the end of Airport Road. The parking lot is at the end of the road and offers a pit toilet. There is a trail down a steep slope to the rapids with trails and rocks for climbing. This area is especially pretty in early summer when the snow melt causes the water levels in the river to rise. Brule River: This river is the boundary waters between Michigan and Wisconsin on the very southern edge of Mastodon Township. It is utilized often for canoing, kayaking and fishing. Where the river intersects with Highway 2/141, there is a pit toilet and shore fishing. However, the river is not accessible for canoes or kayaks at this point. The access point for canoes and kayaks is where the Brule River intersects with Hwy. 189/139 south of Iron River at Brule River Drive Landing.
